Terms of Service
Plain-language summary: Course Compass is a Chrome extension that helps you manage and study your Canvas coursework. Free features are free forever. Paid plans are billed through Paddle and can be cancelled at any time. Use the tool honestly — don't use it to cheat or to scrape Canvas. We provide the service as-is and our liability is limited to what you paid us in the prior three months.
1. Acceptance of terms
By installing or using Course Compass (the "Extension") or accessing the Charted Edu Tech account portal at chartededutech.com (the "Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not install or use the Extension or Site.
These Terms constitute a legal agreement between you and Charted Edu Tech ("we," "us," or "our"). We may update these Terms from time to time; the "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. Description of the service
Course Compass is a Chrome browser extension that:
- Reads your Canvas LMS assignments and prioritizes them by urgency, point value, and current grade.
- Provides a treasure-hunt study game, dubloon economy, focus timer, and streak tracking.
- Allows you to import and index study notes and files (PDFs, slides, handwritten scans) and surfaces relevant material on Canvas pages.
- On paid plans, offers managed AI features — quiz generation, pre-grading, OCR, and summaries — via the Charted Edu Tech Campus AI backend.
Course Compass is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instructure, Inc. or Canvas LMS.
3. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 13 years old to use Course Compass. If you are under 18, you represent that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials (including your Campus AI token) secure and for all activity that occurs under your account.
4. Free plan and paid plans
Free plan
The core features of Course Compass — assignment prioritization, treasure-hunt games, dubloons, streaks, focus timer, local notes library, and a one-time taste of AI features — are available for free with no time limit.
Paid plans (Plus and Pro)
Paid plans unlock managed AI study features with a monthly credit allowance. Paid plans are available on monthly, semester (~4-month), and annual billing cycles at the prices listed on the Pricing page.
Billing is handled by Paddle, our merchant of record. By subscribing, you agree to Paddle's applicable terms. Charted Edu Tech does not store your payment card details.
Credits refresh at the start of each billing period and do not roll over. Add-on credit top-up packs are available for purchase on paid plans.
Free trials
When a free trial is offered, it will be clearly described at checkout, including its duration. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, you will be charged the applicable subscription price.
Cancellation and refunds
You may cancel your subscription at any time through the account portal or by contacting us at hello@chartededutech.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access to paid features until then. We do not provide prorated refunds for unused time within a billing period except where required by applicable law.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Course Compass to:
- Facilitate academic dishonesty. You may not use AI-generated outputs to submit work that misrepresents your own effort in violation of your institution's academic integrity policy. The AI tools are designed to help you study and understand material, not to complete assignments for you.
- Scrape or harvest data. You may not use the Extension to programmatically scrape, aggregate, or resell Canvas data, instructor content, or any data belonging to other users.
- Circumvent access controls. You may not use the Extension to access Canvas content or accounts you are not authorized to access.
- Abuse the service. You may not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the Campus AI backend, bypass credit metering, or interfere with the service in a way that degrades the experience for other users.
- Violate any law. You may not use the Extension in a manner that violates applicable local, state, national, or international law.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably determine you have violated these acceptable use rules.
6. Intellectual property
Course Compass, the Charted Edu Tech name and logo, and all associated software, designs, and content are owned by Charted Edu Tech and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any ownership rights in the Extension or service.
Your notes, files, and study content that you import into the Extension remain yours. You grant Charted Edu Tech a limited, non-exclusive license to process that content solely as necessary to provide the service to you (for example, routing it through our AI backend when you trigger an AI action).
7. Third-party services
Course Compass integrates with third-party services including Canvas LMS, Google Drive, and the Cloudflare platform. Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies. Charted Edu Tech is not responsible for the availability or conduct of third-party services.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
THE EXTENSION AND SERVICE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CHARTED EDUTECH DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT AI-GENERATED OUTPUTS WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE.
AI-generated content (quiz questions, summaries, pre-grade feedback, OCR text) may contain errors. Always review AI outputs critically and verify important information independently.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CHARTED EDUTECH'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE TOTAL FEES YOU PAID TO CHARTED EDUTECH IN THE THREE MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) $10 USD.
IN NO EVENT SHALL CHARTED EDUTECH BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
10. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the service shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
Notwithstanding the above, either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to prevent actual or threatened infringement of intellectual property rights.
11. Changes to the service
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of Course Compass at any time. We will endeavor to provide reasonable notice of significant changes. If we discontinue a paid feature you rely on, we will provide a prorated credit or refund at our discretion.
